A Royal Adventure

Very shortly I will be involved in being part of the management team at the Kings Knoll hotel, Oban.
The hotel can be easily found on the main road from Glasgow to Oban the A85, also known as “Bealach-An-Righ” which translates as the kings highway, legend has it that the kings of Scotland were carried on this road on their way to be buried on the island of Iona
The Team
The owner is Mr Gilbert MacKechnie, who has a wealth of experience as both a businessman, and a local hotelier, having owned at one point The Alexandra Hotel, the Rowan tree hotel, the Columba hotel ,to name but a few.
Currently Gilbert runs Glenrigh Guesthouse which has 4 stars, and is on the seafront.
While working for Gilbert at the Alexandra hotel, we enjoyed a good rate of repeat business, and witnessed his drive to upgrade the premises over the many years I worked for him there.
Tommie Hayward
This is me, like a lot of locals I started out as a dishwasher, in one of the major hotels in Oban where I also helped out the chef and was bitten by the bug.
I went to Clydebank College for 2 years and gained my OND in hotel management, part of which required me to work in every department of a hotel.
After college I returned to Oban and worked in various local hotels and restaurants, as well as travelling around the country when necessary.
I have also had a couple of businesses of my own along the way.

Iain MacCorquodale
As well being my stepson Iain is also a very likeable and able young man.
Like me after school Iain worked in local hotels, and went away to Glasgow to study, qualifying with a degree in management and human resources.
He currently operates his own business,Precious Things with his partner Dee, which is on the high street in town.
Current News
At the moment the hotel is being refurbished, with the aim being to create a boutique style hotel, which will be similar to Gilbert’s current operation at , you can get an idea by visiting the website for Glenrigh
The eventual aim is to give our guests a quality experience, with out the stuffy formality some time found in other hotels.
We also hope to encourage the locals to rediscover the kings Knoll, as this was once popular place for them to pop up and have a relaxing drink
The Kings Knoll would also be ideal for intimate family gatherings, training events, seminars, with off road parking for guests and it’s easy to find location,
Oban’s town centre is only five minutes walk, with a leisure centre nearby among other attractions.
